In a new feature article, published in Sunday’s Hartford Courant, Owen McNally calls the Peter Madsen Trio‘s forthcoming release, The Litchfield Suite (Playscape Recordings), “a brilliant suite for jazz trio…with surging energies, wide-ranging colors and shifting moods expressed in soulful funk and lyrical impressionism with dramatic intensity.”

“With its combustible mix of composition and improvisation,” McNally continues, “the piece is a dynamic showcase for Madsen’s trio, featuring himself on piano, Andy McKee on bass and Gerald Cleaver on drums. Typical of Madsen’s music, whether in his acclaimed solo piano albums or in his more than 400 compositions, the artist’s uniquely personal voice shines through the piece’s diversity, vitality and boundary-stretching action and force.”

The Litchfield Suite officially hits the streets on March 16 and the Peter Madsen Trio will return to Connecticut on June 4th to perform at New Haven’s Firehouse 12 as part of the venue’s fifth annual Spring Jazz Series.
