About Creative Nation Music

“The brainchild of guitarist Eric Hofbauer,” explains the Boston Phoenix’s Jon Garelick, “Creative Nation Music has released a clutch of vital CDs from Boston’s progressive-jazz scene.” Local writers have also credited the label with “specializing in the adventurous end of Boston jazz” (Kevin Lowenthal, Boston Globe), showcasing “the most sharply inventive new music and jazz outfits around” (Bob Young, Boston Herald) and documenting “some of the most distinctive musicians in the Boston area” (Alan Chase, The Wire [Portsmouth, New Hampshire]).

Creative Nation Music began as a weekly concert series at a local venue in 2000, but soon grew to become a multi-faceted effort to organize and advance Boston’s diverse creative improvised music scene. In early 2004, after a year as a collective that produced concerts all over the area and sold CDs through a unified online storefront, CNM Productions produced its first original release. Five years (and a name change) later, Creative Nation Music was celebrating a milestone anniversary and a catalog of more than a dozen recordings, including some of the most respected independent releases of the past few years.
