About Josh Sinton

Josh Sinton is one of New York’s premier low-end reed specialists, and can be heard playing baritone saxophone or bass/contrabass clarinet in projects ranging from intimate solo and duo concerts to his own small groups to Darcy James Argue’s acclaimed 18-piece steampunk big band, Secret Society. When not performing his own music or creatively celebrating the musical legacy of former teacher Steve Lacy, including a new project featuring previously unpublished etudes, Sinton is an active member of such ensembles as the Nate Wooley Quintet and the Andrew D’Angelo Big Band.

Raised in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey (the inspiration for his most recent solo recording) before moving through Europe and Israel during his high school years, Sinton has been based in Brooklyn since 2004. He is also a former member of the Boston and Chicago music scenes, where he studied with such notable instructors as Jerry Bergonzi, Ran Blake, Ari Brown and Ken Vandermark while at the University of Chicago and New England Conservatory.
